Pile Head Treatment
Pile head treatment seals the interface between cut-off pile heads and the raft slab using crystalline waterproofing, epoxy bonding, and detailing systems that prevent water ingress through reinforcement and construction joints.
Application methodology
A three-step system for a watertight pile-to-raft interface.
Every pile head is treated in the same disciplined sequence — re-profile, seal, then encapsulate — so the detail is repeatable across hundreds of piles per site.
STEP 01Re-profiling
Non-shrink repair mortar
Cut-off pile heads are chipped back to sound concrete, reinforcement is cleaned, and the surface is reshaped with a polymer-modified non-shrink repair mortar. This restores a level, dense substrate and corrects any honeycombing before waterproofing.
STEP 02Sealing
Waterproofing bituminous membrane
A self-adhesive or torch-applied bituminous membrane is wrapped over the re-profiled pile head and lapped onto the surrounding blinding. The membrane forms the primary watertight barrier against rising groundwater and lateral hydrostatic pressure.
STEP 03Encapsulation
Non-shrink epoxy-based mortar
The sealed head is fully encapsulated with a non-shrink epoxy-based mortar, locking the membrane in place and protecting it from mechanical damage during rebar fixing and raft pour. The result is a monolithic, chemical-resistant interface between pile and raft.
