OVERVIEW

Blast Mitigation Coatings

High-performance blast mitigation coating systems engineered to protect structures and assets from explosive forces, shock waves, and high-energy impacts. Our spray-applied elastomeric polyurea systems absorb and dissipate blast energy, contain fragmentation, and maintain structural integrity during extreme events — engineered for UAE defense, government and critical infrastructure assets.

Deep dive

Understanding blast mitigation

01

What is blast mitigation?

Blast mitigation is the engineered use of protective materials and systems to reduce the damage an explosion causes to a structure and the people inside it. The goal is to absorb energy, hold the structure together, and stop fragments from becoming secondary hazards.

In the UAE, blast mitigation is specified on government buildings, embassies, oil & gas facilities, data centres and transport infrastructure — assets where a single incident must not lead to progressive collapse or mass casualties.

02

How blast mitigation coatings work

Spray-applied elastomeric coatings bond to concrete, CMU and steel, then stretch under blast load instead of shattering. The membrane converts blast energy into controlled deformation and retains fractured substrate behind the wall — limiting spall, debris and behind-wall injury.

  • High tensile strength and elongation (200–800%)
  • Seamless, monolithic membrane with no cold joints
  • Bonds directly to prepared concrete, CMU and steel
  • Fast cure — assets return to service in hours, not weeks
03

Materials used

  • Pure polyurea — primary blast and fragmentation membrane
  • Polyurethane hybrids — cost-tuned variants for lower-threat zones
  • Fibre-reinforced composite overlays for structural upgrade
  • Laminated blast-resistant glazing systems for openings
04

Where blast mitigation coatings are deployed

  • Government buildings, embassies and consulates
  • Safe rooms, security checkpoints and perimeter walls
  • Energy and petrochemical control rooms
  • Data centres and critical utility assets
  • Transport infrastructure — tunnels, stations, bridges
05

Why polyurea is the preferred technology

Polyurea combines the highest tensile strength and elongation of any sprayable coating with a fully seamless finish and rapid cure. It conforms to complex geometry, adds minimal weight, and is tested to recognised blast standards — making it the system of choice for retrofit and new-build blast protection across the UAE.

  • Lightweight — no additional structural loading
  • Seamless coverage on walls, columns and soffits
  • Tested to UFC 4-010-01, ASTM F1642 and NATO STANAG 4569
  • Compatible with corrosion, UV and chemical protection in one build-up
Standards & compliance

Engineered to international standards, accepted in the UAE.

  • UFC 4-010-01 (Anti-terrorism)
  • DoD / GSA blast test protocols
  • ASTM F1642 (fragment retention)
  • NATO STANAG 4569
Key features

What makes this system perform.

01

Structural Blast Mitigation Coatings

high-build elastomeric coatings on concrete and steel that limit spalling, retain fractured material, and minimise secondary debris hazards.

02

Impact & Fragmentation Control Coatings

energy-absorbing membranes that resist high-velocity impacts and contain flying debris from blast or accidental events.

03

Retrofit & Asset Upgrade Systems

spray-applied upgrades for existing structures with no invasive structural works; fast curing for rapid return to service.

04

Lifecycle & Environmental Protection

long-term resistance to corrosion, chemicals, water ingress, UV and harsh UAE environmental exposure.
