During construction, cast into the concrete at construction and movement joints before the pour, which is why joint detailing has to be agreed early with the structural design.

What is an injection hose used for?

It is fixed in the joint before casting so that, if the joint later leaks, resin can be injected through the hose to seal it without breaking out the concrete.

What is the difference between a waterstop and a swellable bar?

A waterstop is a profiled barrier cast across the joint. A swellable bar expands on contact with water to close the joint gap; it is simpler to fix but depends on correct placement, cover and restraint.

Can joints be sealed after the structure is built?

Yes, through injection and joint-sealing works, but preventive systems installed during construction are more reliable and far less costly than remedial treatment.
