OVERVIEW

Polyurea Coatings

Polyurea is a two-component elastomer sprayed by hot, high-pressure equipment. It cures in seconds to form a seamless, flexible, waterproof and chemical-resistant membrane for tanks, roofs, infrastructure and industrial assets across the UAE.

Deep dive

Types of polyurea coatings

01

What is polyurea?

Polyurea is a two-component coating made by reacting an isocyanate with a resin blend through high-pressure heated spray equipment. It reacts within seconds to form a seamless, flexible, waterproof and impact-resistant membrane that protects concrete, steel, fibreglass and industrial substrates in demanding environments.

02

Pure polyurea

Contains no polyurethane additives — the highest-performing system for waterproofing and protective coatings.

  • Extremely fast cure
  • High elongation and crack bridging
  • Superior waterproofing performance
  • High chemical and abrasion resistance
  • Used on roofs, water and irrigation tanks, podiums, industrial facilities and blast mitigation
03

Hybrid polyurea

Combines polyurea and polyurethane chemistry to balance flexibility, adhesion and cost.

  • Improved workability and good flexibility
  • Economical, durable waterproofing
  • Used for general waterproofing, industrial coatings and maintenance systems
04

Aromatic polyurea

Used for internal or non-UV-exposed applications where strength and cost-efficiency matter most. Under direct sunlight the surface gradually shifts from grey to a yellow/amber tone — this is purely cosmetic and does not affect waterproofing, elongation or mechanical performance.

  • High mechanical performance
  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Cost-effective protection
  • UV exposure causes yellowing only — performance unchanged
  • Used on underground structures, tank linings and internal waterproofing
05

Aliphatic polyurea

Engineered for UV stability and colour retention on exposed surfaces.

  • UV resistance and colour stability
  • Weather durability
  • Decorative-finish compatibility
  • Used on exposed roofs, architectural coatings and decorative protection systems

Application method

Plural-component spray under high pressure and temperature

Pure polyurea cannot be brushed or rolled. TEXSA applies it with a GRACO Reactor plural-component spray rig that heats and pressurises the two reactive components independently, then mixes them inside the gun for an instantaneous, seamless cure.

GRACO Reactor 3 E-XP2 plural-component proportioner on site, with Component A (blue drum) and Component B (red drum) feeding heated, high-pressure hoses to the spray gun.

Spray pressure
2,000–2,500 psi

Component temperature
70–80 °C

Iso (A) and resin (B) heated independently for correct viscosity.

Gel / tack-free

Seamless build-up of the required DFT in successive passes.

Mix ratio
1 : 1 by volume

Plural-component proportioner maintains exact ratio at all times.

  1. 01

    Conditioning

Both components are circulated through the Reactor's heated hoses until they reach target temperature and pressure. Drum agitators keep the resin homogeneous.

  2. 02

    Proportioning

The plural-component pump meters the isocyanate (A) and resin blend (B) at a precise 1:1 ratio and pushes them through separate, heated lines to the spray gun.

  3. 03

    Impingement mixing & spray

Inside the gun's mix chamber the two streams collide at high pressure, atomise and react instantly — depositing a seamless, fully bonded polyurea film on the prepared substrate.

  4. 04

    Cure & inspection

The membrane is walkable in minutes. DFT is verified wet and after cure; pinhole / spark testing confirms a continuous, defect-free waterproofing layer.
