Overview

Pure polyurea is a two-component, plural-spray elastomer used to waterproof and protect concrete and steel assets across UAE infrastructure. This guide summarises the specification points TEXSA engineers verify before any project is released for application.

Pure vs hybrid polyurea

Pure polyurea contains 100% isocyanate plus amine-terminated resin. Hybrid polyurea blends in polyol, which reduces cost but compromises elongation, chemical resistance, and long-term performance — a poor trade for critical assets.

Substrate preparation

  • Surface profile: ICRI CSP 3–5 by shot blast or mechanical grinding.
  • Moisture content below 4% by Tramex or ASTM D4263 calcium chloride.
  • Primer matched to substrate — epoxy primer on concrete, zinc primer on steel.

Acceptance testing

  • DFT verification using magnetic gauge at agreed grid density.
  • Pull-off adhesion to ASTM D4541 with documented failure mode.
  • 48-hour flood test on horizontal areas prior to overburden installation.
