Key takeaways
  1. 01Flood test is the final acceptance gate before overburden.
  2. 02Dam height, water depth, and hold time must follow ASTM D5957.
  3. 03UAE evaporation rates require early-morning execution and careful scheduling.

Purpose

A flood test is the final, contractually binding acceptance check for a horizontal waterproofing membrane. Done correctly, it catches lap failures, pinholes, and detailing defects before overburden is installed.

Pre-flood preparation

  • Confirm DFT and pull-off results meet specification.
  • Plug drains and erect temporary dams 75–100 mm above membrane.
  • Notify occupants of areas below; protect vulnerable assets.

Conducting the test

  • Flood to minimum 25 mm and maximum 100 mm depth.
  • Hold for 24 hours (48 hours preferred on critical assets).
  • Inspect below for any sign of leak. Mark and rectify before re-test.
